QIP Accredited Dental PracticeAustralian Dental Association Member

Kallangur Dental Surgery is a preferred provider for Medibank, HCF, Bupa and Westfund. Members of every other health fund can claim on the spot through HICAPS, and we accept DVA and Queensland Health emergency dental vouchers. Depending on your policy, a check-up and clean with us may be no gap.

Preferred provider

What being a preferred provider dentist means

A health fund's preferred provider network is a group of dental practices that have agreed to the fund's fee schedule. In return, members of that fund usually receive a higher rebate when they are treated at a network practice, and some preventive items, such as check-ups and cleans, may be paid in full.

Kallangur Dental Surgery is part of the networks for Medibank, HCF, Bupa and Westfund. If you hold extras cover with one of these funds, your out-of-pocket cost is likely to be lower here than at a practice outside the network. How much lower depends on your cover level, waiting periods and how much of your annual limit is left, so we always recommend checking with your fund or asking us for an item-numbered quote.

No gap

What no gap dental means at our practice

"No gap" means your fund's rebate covers the whole fee for an item, so there is nothing left to pay on the day. At a preferred provider, this most often applies to routine preventive care: the examination, scale and clean, bitewing X-rays and fluoride. It is not the same as free dentistry, and it does not apply to every fund, policy or treatment.

A no gap check-up can still leave a gap if you have reached your annual limit, if you are inside a waiting period, or if the dentist recommends treatment beyond the check-up. When that happens, we explain the cost in writing before anything further is done. New to the practice? Our new patient offer sets the check-up, clean and X-rays at $199 before any rebate.

HICAPS

Claim on the spot with HICAPS, whatever your fund

You do not have to be with one of our preferred funds to be treated here. We accept all health funds, and our HICAPS terminal lets you swipe your fund card at reception so your rebate is taken off straight away. You pay only the difference, if there is one, rather than paying the full fee and waiting for a refund.

For larger treatment, ask for a written quote with item numbers. Your fund can tell you exactly what they will pay, and if the gap is more than you would like to pay at once, our payment plans let you spread the cost.

Government schemes

DVA, Queensland Health vouchers and the CDBS

We accept Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) patients and Queensland Health emergency dental vouchers. Please bring your card or voucher to your appointment, and let us know when you book so we can confirm what is covered.

Children who are eligible for the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) can have eligible treatment bulk billed with us, so there is no out-of-pocket cost for covered services. Ask our team to check eligibility when you book your child's visit, or read more on our kids dentist page.

Which health funds do you accept?

All of them. We are a preferred provider for Medibank, HCF, Bupa and Westfund, and we accept every other fund, including nib, HBF and CBHS, through HICAPS. We also accept DVA patients and Queensland Health emergency dental vouchers.

Are you a Bupa Members First or Medibank Members' Choice provider?

Yes, Kallangur Dental Surgery is part of both networks, as well as the HCF and Westfund preferred provider networks. Eligible members usually receive higher rebates with us, and some may pay nothing for a check-up and clean. Our Bupa page explains the Members First arrangement in more detail.

What does no gap mean at the dentist?

No gap means your fund pays the whole fee for an item, so you have nothing to pay on the day. It usually applies to preventive items such as examinations, cleans and X-rays, and only for eligible policies with limits remaining. We will tell you before treatment if a gap applies.

Can I claim on the spot with HICAPS?

Yes. Bring your fund card and we will process the claim at reception. The rebate comes off your bill immediately, and you pay only the difference.

Do you bulk bill under the CDBS?

Yes. Children who are eligible for the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule can have covered treatment bulk billed with us. Mention the CDBS when you book and we will confirm your child's eligibility.

Do I have to change funds to be treated here?

No. Patients with any fund, or with no insurance at all, are welcome. Members of our preferred funds may receive higher rebates, but our care is the same for everyone.

What is a waiting period?

Most funds require you to hold a policy for a period before you can claim, commonly around two months for general dental and longer for major dental. If you have just joined or upgraded your cover, check with your fund before booking treatment you plan to claim.
