The basics
What is an implant supported bridge?
Think of it as a small span of teeth resting on two or more pillars. The pillars are titanium implants placed in the jawbone where teeth used to be, and the span is a single piece of connected crowns fixed on them. Two implants can often carry three or four teeth, which keeps surgery and cost lower than placing an implant under every missing tooth.
Because the implants stand in for tooth roots, the bridge is anchored in bone rather than sitting on gums or leaning on other teeth. That gives a steady bite for everyday foods and a result that looks like part of your natural smile. The implants also keep the jawbone under the gap working, which helps limit the gradual bone shrinkage that follows tooth loss.
