Replacing missing teeth

Dentures in Kallangur for the whole Moreton Bay region

Losing teeth changes more than your smile. Chewing gets harder, some words become tricky to say and your cheeks and lips can lose their support. A well-made denture brings back the teeth you are missing without surgery, and for many people it is the most practical way to get back to eating a proper meal.

Our Kallangur team looks after new dentures, replacements and the upkeep that follows, and we also place dental implants when someone wants a denture that clicks firmly into place. That means you can weigh up a removable plate against a fixed or implant-retained option in the same room, with the same dentist, before you decide.

The basics

What are dentures, and what types of dentures are there?

A denture is a set of replacement teeth fixed into a base coloured to look like gum. Most bases are acrylic resin, which is why you will often hear them called acrylic dentures. Some partials use a thin cobalt chrome metal frame or a flexible nylon base instead.

There are four broad types. Full (complete) dentures replace every tooth in an arch. Partial dentures fill gaps between your own teeth and clip onto them. Immediate dentures are made in advance and fitted on the day teeth are removed. Implant-retained dentures attach to implants in the jaw so they do not move when you eat. Each one is custom-made from impressions of your mouth.

What affects the price

How much do dentures cost in Australia?

Denture costs across Australia cover a wide range, and a fair quote depends on your own mouth. The main things that move the price are the type of denture, how many teeth it replaces, the materials (acrylic, cobalt chrome or flexible), whether extractions or gum treatment are needed first, and whether implants are involved. A small acrylic partial sits at the lower end, a full upper and lower set costs more, and implant-retained dentures cost the most.

Rather than print a figure that may not match your case, we examine you first and give you a written estimate with item numbers. Your health fund can then tell you what it will pay back. We are preferred providers with Medibank, HCF, Bupa and Westfund, all other funds are claimed on the spot through HICAPS, and eligible DVA patients are welcome.

How it works

Your first denture appointment at Anzac Avenue

The first visit is about working out which denture suits you and what it will involve. Nothing is made until you have seen the plan and the estimate. This is how the appointment runs:

01

Health and history

We ask about your general health, the medicines you take and any dental work or dentures you have had in the past. Some conditions and medications change how gums heal or how a denture should be designed, so this comes first.

02

Examining your mouth

Your dentist checks your gums, the ridges of bone underneath and any teeth you still have. X-rays may be taken to see whether any remaining teeth are sound enough to keep or to anchor a partial.

03

Talking through the types

We compare full, partial and implant-retained dentures against how many teeth you are missing, how you eat and what you want to spend. You also get a say in the shade and shape of the new teeth.

04

A written plan and estimate

You leave with a plan listing each step, including any extractions or gum treatment needed first, plus item numbers so you can check your health fund rebate. If you want to proceed, we book the impression appointments.

Good to know

Dentures - frequently asked

How much do dentures cost in Australia?

It varies with the type of denture, the number of teeth replaced, the material and any preparation needed first. An acrylic partial for a few teeth is at the lower end, full sets cost more and implant-retained dentures cost the most. At Kallangur Dental Surgery we examine you first and give you a written estimate before treatment, so you know the figure for your case rather than a general range.

What types of dentures are there?

The main types are full (complete) dentures, partial dentures, immediate dentures and implant-retained dentures. Partials can be made from acrylic, a cobalt chrome frame or a flexible base. Your dentist will explain which suit your mouth at your consultation.

How long do dentures last?

Many dentures give years of service with good care, but your gums and jawbone slowly change shape once teeth are lost. That usually means a reline or adjustment along the way, and eventually a new set. Regular check-ups let us keep an eye on the fit and pick up wear before it causes sore spots.

Can I get dentures the same day my teeth are removed?

Yes, this is what an immediate denture is for. Impressions are taken before your extractions so the denture is ready to fit straight afterwards, meaning you are not left without teeth while you heal. Because your gums shrink as they settle, an immediate denture needs adjusting and relining in the months that follow.

Are implant dentures better than regular dentures?

They suit different people. Implant-retained dentures are much more stable when eating and do not need adhesive, but they involve surgery, healing time and a higher cost. A conventional denture needs no surgery and costs less. We can talk you through both so you can decide what matters more to you.

Will my health fund cover dentures?

Most extras policies that include major dental pay something towards dentures, although the amount differs a lot between funds and levels of cover. We give you item numbers with your estimate so you can ask your fund exactly what it will pay. Claims can be processed on the spot through HICAPS.

Are payment plans available for dentures?

Payment options may be available so you can spread the cost of larger treatment over time, subject to approval. Ask our front desk team about what is on offer when you book your consultation.
