The cost of a denture repair depends on the damage and the materials involved. We assess your denture and confirm the price before any work begins. Same-day repairs may be possible depending on the type of damage and availability.

Quick turnaround

Can a broken denture be repaired the same day?

Often, yes. Simple repairs such as a clean crack through the base or a single tooth that has come away can frequently be returned to you the same day or the next, depending on the damage, laboratory timing and appointment availability. More involved work, such as rebuilding a clasp, adding a tooth after an extraction or a full reline, can take a little longer.

The fastest way to find out is to call before you come in. Tell us what has broken and when you last had the denture adjusted, and we will give you a realistic timeframe. Keep all the broken pieces, and please do not try glue from the supermarket: household adhesives can distort the fit and make a proper repair harder.

What we fix

Broken denture repair and denture relines

We look after full and partial dentures, including acrylic, cobalt chrome and many flexible designs.

  • Cracked or snapped bases - A denture dropped on a hard floor or bitten on awkwardly can split. We rejoin and reinforce the base so it fits as it did before.
  • Missing or chipped teeth - A tooth that has broken off can usually be replaced and matched to the rest of the set.
  • Broken or loose clasps - Partial clasps can bend or snap. We can repair or replace them so the partial holds firmly again.
  • Adding a tooth - If you lose another natural tooth, a tooth can often be added to your existing acrylic partial rather than starting again.
  • Relines - The fitting surface is rebuilt to match the current shape of your gums, which tightens a loose denture and eases sore spots.
  • Adjustments - Rubbing, ulcers or a bite that feels wrong can often be fixed by adjusting the denture in the chair.

Keeping the fit

When does a denture need relining?

Once teeth are lost, the ridge of bone and gum underneath slowly shrinks. A denture that fitted well at the start can gradually loosen, even if it is only a few years old. Signs you may need a denture reline include needing more and more adhesive, food getting trapped underneath, the denture dropping when you talk, clicking, or new sore spots on your gums.

A reline fills the gap between the denture and your gums with fresh material shaped to your mouth. Immediate dentures almost always need relining in the months after extractions as the gums heal. For everyone else, having the fit checked at your regular visits lets us reline before looseness causes ulcers or strain on the denture that can lead to cracks.

Making the call

Should I repair or replace my denture?

A repair makes sense when the denture still fits, the teeth are not badly worn and the damage is a one-off. If your denture keeps breaking in the same place, the teeth have worn flat, it has been relined several times, or your mouth has changed a lot, a new denture may serve you better than another repair. Repeated cracks are often a sign the denture no longer fits evenly.

We will give you an honest view once we have seen it. If a new set is the better path, we can usually keep your old denture working in the meantime, and we can also explain whether implant supported dentures would stop the problem coming back.

Good to know

Denture Repairs - frequently asked

Can a broken denture be repaired the same day?

Many simple repairs, such as a clean crack or a tooth that has come off, may be possible the same day or next day, depending on the damage and availability. Complex repairs and relines can take longer. Call us on (07) 3886 0933 to describe the damage and we will give you a timeframe.

How much does a denture repair cost?

It depends on what has broken and how much work it takes, so a simple crack costs less than a rebuilt clasp or a full reline. We assess the denture and confirm the cost with you before any work begins. Many extras policies contribute to denture repairs and relines, and we can claim through HICAPS on the spot.

When does a denture need relining?

When it starts to feel loose, you need more adhesive than before, food gets underneath or new sore spots appear. Immediate dentures usually need a reline in the months after extractions, and other dentures may need one every few years as the gums change.

Should I repair or replace my denture?

Repair it if it still fits well and the damage is a one-off. Consider a replacement if it keeps breaking, the teeth are worn flat, it has been relined several times or it no longer fits evenly. We will give you our view after looking at it.

Can I fix my denture at home with glue?

We advise against it. Household glues are not made for use in the mouth, can irritate your gums and can set the pieces slightly out of line, which makes a proper repair harder or impossible. Keep all the pieces and bring them in.

Do you repair partial dentures and chrome dentures?

Yes. We repair acrylic partials, cobalt chrome partials and many flexible partials, including broken clasps and missing teeth. Some chrome framework repairs need laboratory work, so we will let you know the expected timeframe when we assess it.
