Dental Problems We Solve

Got a dental problem? Start here

Most dental problems start small: a twinge on one side, gums that bleed when you floss, a chip you notice in the mirror. Below are the common dental problems our Kallangur dentists see every week on Anzac Avenue. Pick the one that sounds like yours to read what usually causes it, what the fix involves, and when it should not wait.

  • Most problems are simpler and cheaper to fix when caught early
  • Nervous about the chair? Tell us, and we plan the visit around you

When it hurts now

Which dental problems are emergencies?

Some problems should be seen the same day if at all possible: facial swelling, a tooth knocked out or badly broken, bleeding that will not stop, or pain strong enough to keep you awake. Call (07) 3886 0933 as soon as the clinic opens at 8:30am and tell us what has happened, and we will fit you in as early as we can. Our emergency dentist page covers first aid for the most common situations, and QLD Health emergency vouchers are accepted.

If swelling is spreading towards your eye or neck, or you are having trouble breathing or swallowing, go to a hospital emergency department straight away.

Timing matters

When should I see a dentist about a problem?

A good rule of thumb: if something in your mouth has changed and it is still there after a week or two, book a check. Sensitivity that is getting worse, gums that bleed every time you brush, a filling that feels rough, or a tooth that aches when you bite are all early warning signs that are much easier to deal with now than later.

Pain that comes and goes is still worth investigating. Teeth often go quiet for a while before a problem flares up again, and by then the fix may be bigger. Your regular check-up and clean is also when we pick up most problems before you ever feel them.

The everyday ones

What are the most common dental problems?

Across the Moreton Bay families we look after, from Kallangur and Petrie to North Lakes and Narangba, the same handful of problems come up again and again: tooth decay, gum disease, chipped or worn teeth, plaque build-up, missing teeth and old dental work that needs replacing. Many patients also come to us wanting a straighter or brighter smile, or help with a gummy smile, gaps or dentures that no longer fit well.

Recurring problems usually have a reason behind them, whether that is genetics, a medical condition, diet, or avoiding the dentist because of nerves. Part of our job is finding that reason so the same issue does not keep coming back. If you are worried about the visit itself, Dr Sonia and the team will go at your pace.
