Major dental treatment at Kallangur Dental Surgery
Major dental is the health-fund name for the bigger jobs: dental implants, crowns, root canal treatment, surgical and wisdom teeth removal, bridges and dentures. At Kallangur Dental Surgery on Anzac Avenue, our dentists assess the tooth, show you the X-rays and give you a written treatment plan with item numbers and costs, so you can check your cover and decide with no surprises.

Your next step
Nobody should find out the cost of major dental halfway through. We check the tooth, take the images we need and give you a written plan with costs and payment options, then the decision is yours.

Your options
For a broken, infected or missing tooth, the goal is to keep what can be kept and restore what cannot. These are the major treatments our Kallangur team provides.

For suitable teeth, a crown can be designed and fitted in a single appointment, without a temporary crown or a second visit.

Wisdom teeth that are stuck or only part-way through can trap food and flare up. Removing them early often spares repeated infections later.

When the nerve inside a tooth is inflamed or infected, root canal treatment cleans and seals the canals so the tooth can stay.

Full or partial dentures replace missing teeth with a removable plate, shaped around your gums and any teeth you still have.

An implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up, with a titanium post in the jaw and a crown on top. Single implants start from $3,999.

A crown covers a cracked, heavily filled or root-treated tooth to hold it together and let you bite on it with confidence again.

A bridge fills a gap with a false tooth fixed to the teeth either side, so there is nothing to take out at night.

When a tooth cannot be saved, we remove it gently and talk you through the ways to replace it before you leave.

Book an AppointmentMajor dental covers the treatment that goes past routine care: dental crowns, crowns and bridges, root canal treatment, wisdom teeth removal, tooth extractions and dentures. These are often the visits people worry about most, whether that is about discomfort, the bill or time off work, so we take the time to plan them with you.
Most of this work is carried out here at our Kallangur practice by the dentists you already see for your check-ups, including Dr Sonia and Dr Donny Sin. If a case would be better managed elsewhere, we will tell you and arrange a referral. Patients come to us from Kallangur, Petrie, Murrumba Downs, Mango Hill, North Lakes, Narangba and across the Moreton Bay region.
Health funds split dental cover into general and major. Major dental usually has its own waiting period and annual limit, and a lower rebate than a clean or check-up. We are a preferred provider for Medibank, HCF, Bupa and Westfund, and all other funds are accepted through HICAPS. We also accept DVA cards and QLD Health emergency dental vouchers. Ask for an item-numbered quote and your fund can tell you your out-of-pocket cost before treatment starts.
If a tooth has already been lost, or cannot be saved, dental implants may be worth considering alongside a bridge or denture. For everyday care such as check-ups and fillings, see general dentistry.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before going ahead, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
Good to know
Most funds class crowns, bridges, dentures, root canal treatment, surgical extractions such as wisdom teeth, and orthodontics as major dental. Check-ups, cleans, X-rays and simple fillings are usually general or preventive. Major dental often has a longer waiting period, commonly 12 months, and a separate annual limit, so it is worth checking your policy before you book treatment.
It depends on the treatment, the tooth and how complex it is, so we do not quote a figure until we have examined you. After your assessment you receive a written estimate with item numbers, and you can send it to your fund to see what they will pay. With HICAPS on site, your rebate can be claimed on the day.
Payment plans may be available for larger treatment, subject to approval. Ask our team at your consultation and we will explain the options, so you can spread the cost rather than delay treatment you need.
Yes. We always examine the tooth and take the images needed first, then talk you through a written plan covering the options, the number of visits and the costs. It gives you time to check your health fund cover and ask questions, and no major work starts until you are comfortable to go ahead.
Where a tooth can be kept reliably, keeping it is usually the better outcome, because nothing works quite like your own tooth root. If it cannot be saved, we will say so plainly and discuss replacing it with an implant, a bridge or a denture. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks.
