How snap-on dentures work
What is a dental implant overdenture?
A conventional full denture sits on your gums and relies on suction, saliva and sometimes adhesive to stay in position. That works for some people, but many find the lower plate in particular lifts when they chew, clicks when they talk, or leaves sore spots after a long day.
An overdenture solves this by adding anchors. Titanium implants are placed in the jaw, and small attachments on those implants match housings built into the underside of the denture. When you press the denture down it clicks home, and it stays there until you unclip it. That is why you will also hear these called snap on dentures or implant retained dentures.
Titanium is well tolerated by the body and bonds closely with living bone, which is what allows the implants to act as dependable anchor points for years with good care.
