Are you looking to get dental implants in Brisbane? At Kallangur Dental Surgery, our dentists plan implant treatment for patients from Kallangur and across Brisbane's north, and give you a written quote before anything starts. This guide explains what an implant is, the main types, and what dental implants cost at our Anzac Avenue surgery.
Dental implants replace the root of a missing tooth. An implant is a small post, usually made of titanium, that is placed into the jawbone. Over the following months the bone heals closely around it, a process called osseointegration. Once it is stable, a connector called an abutment is fitted, and a crown, bridge or denture is attached on top. Titanium has been used for dental implants for decades because the body tolerates it well, and ceramic (zirconia) implants are also available for some patients. Once the treatment is complete, the implant gives the replacement teeth a stable base, much like the root of a natural tooth.
If you have lost a tooth because of gum disease, decay, physical trauma or infection, an implant may be one way to replace it. Implants can also support a bridge when several teeth are missing, or hold a denture firmly in place. The crown on an implant is shade-matched to your neighbouring teeth so it blends in with your smile.
Not everyone is suited to an implant straight away. You need healthy gums and enough bone to hold the implant, and conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or heavy smoking can affect healing. A 3D cone-beam CT (CBCT) scan shows the bone in detail, so your dentist can tell you whether a bone graft or sinus lift is needed first.
There are two main types of dental implants - endosteal and subperiosteal.
The cost of dental implants depends on how many teeth need replacing, the type of restoration on top, and whether you need extra procedures such as a bone graft, sinus lift or extractions first. These are the starting prices at Kallangur Dental Surgery:
Bone grafts and sinus lifts add to the cost and are quoted separately once your scan shows what is needed. Your dentist explains each item in a written, itemised quote, so you know the full figure before deciding. Payment plans may be available, and health funds with major dental extras may cover part of the treatment, which we can claim on the spot through HICAPS. Our single tooth implant page explains the cost of replacing one tooth in more detail.
