When you need a tooth removed or already have a gap, conventional implant treatment usually takes several months. The tooth is taken out, the site heals, the implant is placed, the bone bonds to it, and only then is the final crown fitted. If a bone graft is needed, it can take longer. Same-day dental implants, also called immediate implants, shorten that wait by placing the implant, and sometimes a temporary tooth, on the day the tooth comes out.

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for same-day dental implants in Kurwongbah. Whether it is possible depends on your bone, your gums and the tooth being replaced. Here is an overview of how it works and who may qualify.

What Are Same-Day Dental Implants?

Can you receive dental implants in Kurwongbah on the same day? For some patients, yes. "Same-day" usually means the implant is placed straight into the socket at the same appointment the tooth is removed, and in some cases a temporary crown or bridge is attached that day too. It does not mean the treatment is finished in a day. The bone still needs several months to bond to the implant before the final crown is made.

A typical same-day implant treatment runs like this:

  • Your dentist plans the treatment using a 3D cone-beam CT (CBCT) scan, which shows the bone around the tooth.
  • The tooth is removed gently, taking care to keep the surrounding bone intact.
  • The implant is placed into the socket. For a single tooth this often takes about an hour, while treatment involving several extractions and implants takes longer.
  • If the implant is stable enough, a temporary crown, or a temporary bridge for several teeth, is fitted. It is shaped to stay out of heavy biting while the bone heals. If the implant is not stable enough to carry a tooth straight away, it is left to heal under the gum, and a temporary denture or other temporary tooth fills the gap.
  • After several months of healing, the temporary is replaced with your final crown or bridge.

The Benefits Of Same-Day Dental Implants

The main benefits of same-day implants are:

  • Fewer surgical appointments. Removing the tooth and placing the implant in one visit means one surgery instead of two, which many nervous patients prefer.
  • Less time with a gap. Where a temporary tooth can be fitted on the day, you leave with a tooth in place rather than a space, which matters most for front teeth.
  • A shorter overall timeline. Skipping the healing period between extraction and implant placement can take months off treatment.
  • Support for the gum shape. Placing the implant, and a temporary tooth where possible, straight away can help support the gum around the site while it heals.

The temporary tooth is shade-matched to your other teeth, and the final crown is made to blend in with your smile. During the healing period you need to follow a soft diet and avoid biting hard on the temporary tooth. Patients can usually return to their normal daily activities once any soreness settles.

Same-day implants also carry some extra considerations. Because the implant goes into a fresh socket, the chance that it does not bond with the bone may be slightly higher than with a conventional, delayed implant, especially if the site was infected. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks, and your dentist will explain them for your situation.

Who Is A Good Candidate?

Same-day implants may suit people who:

  • have enough healthy bone around the tooth being replaced to hold the implant firmly on the day
  • have healthy gums, or have had gum disease treated first
  • have no active infection at the site, or only one that can be cleared during treatment
  • are in good general health, with conditions such as diabetes well controlled
  • do not smoke, or are willing to stop, because smoking increases the risk of implant failure
  • keep up good oral hygiene and regular check-ups

The most important factor is bone. If there is not enough, a bone graft may be needed first, and a staged approach is usually the safer choice. Your dentist will tell you honestly which approach suits you after examining you and reviewing your scan.
